The Birth of
Dream Together Playground
Dream Together Playground is a play space initiated by Playright, inspired by the concept of Western adventure playgrounds and thoughtfully adapted for the local context. The idea behind “1/2” is simple yet powerful: we create the first half of the playground—and the other half is completed by the children themselves.

This shared creation reflects our belief that children are not just users of play spaces, but co-creators of their own play experiences.

The logo features a clean and minimalist design. At its core is a circular motif that cleverly combines elements of a play platform and a pie chart, symbolizing both activity and structure. The Roman numerals 1 and 2, along with two semi-circles split in half, clearly convey the concept of “one-half.”

The numeral 1, stylized as a flag, adds a dynamic touch and subtly communicates the project’s pioneering role in shaping the future of local play spaces. Behind the central design, a smiling child’s face emerges—capturing the ultimate goal of the playground: to create joyful and meaningful play experiences for children.

The 1/2 Playground first appeared in 2020 as a limited-time, pop-up play event experience that traveled across various locations. Its innovative concept quickly gained popularity among children and parents, often exceeding capacity due to high demand. This enthusiastic response inspired a shift towards establishing a fixed site.

With support from the Development Bureau and the Harbourfront Commission, the project was approved in March 2023 under the “Funding Scheme to Support the Use of Vacant Government Sites by Non-Government Organisations”. A new, 2,200-square-metre play space was constructed in Hung Hom Urban Park, designed around three core principles: risk-taking, being child-led, and ever-changing.

On April 20, 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony marked the official naming of the site as Dream Together Playground (1/2 Playground).

Embracing the three core principles of
risk-taking, being child-led, and
ever-changing, children are empowered to
fully realize their potential.
Through the creation of environments rich in
uncertainty, children are encouraged to take bold risks.
This nurtures a generation with positive character traits
such as courage, optimism, resilience, perseverance,
and grit—qualities especially vital for the healthy
development of children from under-resourced
communities.
As a pilot initiative, 1/2 Playground serves as a
model of innovation in both concept and operation.
It sets a benchmark for localized adventure play
and inspires new thinking and planning for the
future of play spaces in Hong Kong.

Decoration image - People Playing Safely:
In response to diversified play behaviors, Playworkers

Decoration image - Hearts Playing Wholeheartedly:
At the core of Playwork is a child-centered philosophy that views
play from children's perspective. Whether a child is quietly
immersed in solitary play, shouting with joy, or engaging in
exuberant activities that bring "delightful chaos" to the
space—each expression is valid and meaningful. Within the
overarching framework of safety, Playworkers fully respect and
embrace these moments, recognizing them as essential to
authentic and self-directed play.
